Medeää
214 descriptions
After the play by Euripides and the TV Movie by Lars von Trier
(1989).
"Bertolt Brecht meets Lars von Trier. That's great!"
3sat, Kulturzeit, 31.7.2002
The director Samuel Schwarz has collaborated with the
author Lukas Barfuss to create their adaptation of the
Medea story inspired primarily, by director Lars von Trier's
film version, made for Danish Television. Trier's film
is performed onstage (by zombies) as a series of pictorial
descriptions.
Barfuss has turned the original Danish texts into phonetic
"Swiss-German", which adds a layer of verbal
slapstick to the whole event, until the last scene, when
Medeää hangs her children on a tree.
The project has won the ZKB-price at the Zürich
Theaterspektakel and was already shown in Vienna, Berlin,
Hamburg, Frankfurt and Bochum.
On 1. and 2. November 2002 400asa showed "Medeää"
at ZENTROPA-STUDIOS in Kopenhagen.
The project has found the way home.
